An eye-catching cover and interesting blurb prompted my reading this book; especially since I felt like dragons. It was an interesting concept of secret societies and mortal enemies that it sounds like an action-packed fast-pacing sort of book. Unfortunately, it was really slow beginning. I also almost gave up as soon as I came across the love-triangle. There’s a certain trope about love-triangles which is a pet hate of mine though I must admit that I was glad I continued reading as I didn’t find it here…

In spite of the slow start and my annoyance at Ember for being so rebellious (so totally against my own nature), Talon became quite engaging at about 2/3 through the book. Most especially when things started to fall apart and actions were engaged. I even started to like Ember (and loving Garret) for her ‘rebellious’ nature as it’s actually her independence of mind that allows her to think for herself. This book feels like a very long set up for a promising series and I will definitely be in the lookout for the rest of it.
