I know my blog has been very slow and practically non-existent these days and I just wanted to explain quickly the reason why.
Some of you would know that we were supposed to be building a new house and was very excited about the fact of moving into a newly build house. Well, late last year, we found out that our builder went bust so we had to get busy claiming on insurance, getting a new builder, and had to review our options. Besides the fact that it was really busy, it was also really depressing so I just hid behind my books (that means that I read a lot but just didn’t have the heart to review those books properly). BUT… things are going swell, yipee! We’re pretty nearly there, just the carpet, landscaping, gas connection, and some touch-ups and we’ll be good 😀
As things were progressing with the house, work suddenly went ballistic. Understandably, this is the busiest time of the year in our industry (EOFY) but am hoping that it will now start to settle down a bit.
So… aside from managing my time better at work and starting to pack for a move in the next couple of months, I hope to catch up on reviews along with updating my challenges (!)
For now, I am excited about starting a read-along with a few GR friends for…
Vikram Seth’s novel is, at its core, a love story: Lata and her mother, Mrs. Rupa Mehra, are both trying to find — through love or through exacting maternal appraisal — a suitable boy for Lata to marry. Set in the early 1950s, in an India newly independent and struggling through a time of crisis, A Suitable Boy takes us into the richly imagined world of four large extended families and spins a compulsively readable tale of their lives and loves. A sweeping panoramic portrait of a complex, multi ethnic society in flux, A Suitable Boy remains the story of ordinary people caught up in a web of love and ambition, humor and sadness, prejudice and reconciliation, the most delicate social etiquette and the most appalling violence.
We are starting tomorrow and aim to read this monstrous book (in size) in 4 weeks! IF this is something you’d like to join in, Do come and join us: here.
A couple of upcoming reviews to look forward to this week (apologies for the delay!):
I hope you all have had a good weekend (had a wet one but quite relaxing), cheers!
