The problem I had with this book was that I had too high expectation…
I expected Scarlet Pimpernel…
I expected Possession…
It didn’t close to either of them! It’s purely chick lit ~ from the blurb of the book, I expected the ‘history’ bit to be diary entries / letters (like Possession) but it’s not, it’s a story form and it’s not even like the Barbara Erskine books where the protagonists are inundated by visions of the past. So it just didn’t gelled for me. Eloise was researching the Pink Carnation and by some luck, she was granted access to some papers (diaries & letters) and suddenly we’re in the past. It just wasn’t smooth, I felt it a bit disjointed. There was a little of a twist as to who the Pink Carnation is, I was duped for partway of the book but wasn’t really too surprise at the ending – pretty predictable so this book didn’t really do it for me.
